The annual ConVal/Conant Hoops for Hope basketball games were held at ConVal on Saturday, and the tripleheader raised more than $6,500 for local families affected by cancer. That mark shattered the previous record of $6,200, set last year; the funds raised have increased nearly every year since the program’s inception.

As for the games, the ConVal boys once again gave Conant a scare, but the Orioles escaped with a valuable 55-53 win. Peyton Springfield scored 16 and Gavin Motuzas added 15 for Conant; Connor Buffum had a game-high 20 for ConVal and Mather Kipka scored 11.

In the girls’ game, it was Mariah Chamberlain leading Conant with 20 points in a 55-48 Oriole victory. Lindsey Carey scored 17 for ConVal.

The Cougars also won the unified game over Conant.

This may have been the last chance for some time for ConVal to notch a basketball win over Conant, as the Cougars are expected to drop most or all of their Division III opponents from their schedules in the future, and the Orioles will partner with another local school for next year’s Hoops for Hope.
