Sand between her toes, bird songs, and a morning fog over the water — that’s Sharon Laflamme is after. Laflamme is leading a series of yoga classes at Contoocook Beach in Jaffrey this week and next, and it’s a serene scene, to hear her describe it.

“Part of what we do in yoga is we guide people into a standing posture, pressing your feet firmly into the ground, feeling a sense of groundedness,” Laflamme said. “You really feel it when you can feel those feet make an imprint into that beach sand, and you know you’re connected.”

Laflamme practices Kripalu yoga, which focuses attention on aligning the connection between breath and body. And breathing in that fresh lake air is a perfect foundation for the sometimes-hectic summer schedule, she said.

“It’s a great way to start the day, getting all that alignment and connectedness and sense of self before going out into your day.”

Beach yoga classes take place Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8 a.m. at Contoocook Beach through Aug. 7. Participants should bring a towel and water.

Drop-in rates are $7 per class or pay $30 for the five remaining sessions.

Register and pay in advance at jaffrey.recdesk.com. Drop-in fees can be paid same day.
