The Bennington select board has filled the vacancy left on its board after one of its members resigned early this year.

The seat was vacated by Steve Osienski, who cited growing job responsibilities as a reason for stepping away from the post.

Jeffrey Rose was appointed to the open seat by the two sitting members on the board. Rose was a member on the select board until March when he ran in a contested race against Mark Mackesy and lost.

Mackesy held a few elected town positions prior to the election, but had never served as a select board member. He stepped away from a position on the town’s Trustees of Trust Funds team to run for the slot.

Rose will hold the seat until town elections next March, at which point he’ll have to run again if he wants to remain on the board.

James Cleary is also a member of the board. His term expires in 2018.
