CONCORD — Ann Wright Stewart, 82, died peacefully on Jan. 1, 2012 at Havenwood-Heritage Heights in Concord. She underwent heart surgery in December 2011 and was unable to recover.
She grew up in Nashua and graduated from Wellesley College in 1950. She was married to Charles Kreger of Cleveland, Ohio, for 26 years, with whom she had four children. They lived in Glen Cove, N.Y. and then Wilton, Conn., and summered in Chatham, Mass. She received an MBA in 1976 from the University of Connecticut, and then worked as a research analysist in consumer market research.
In 1980, she was remarried to David M. Stewart of Wilton, Conn., and they settled in Francestown in 1984. She and David shared nearly 30 years together before his passing 2010. She had a 15-year career as a realtor. She also had a great pleasure of New England primitive antiques, and she extended this appreciation to volunteer work with local and state historic preservation boards and commissions.
Her garden was her temple, from encouraging early lettuces in the spring, to the gathering of the last of the tomatoes in the fall, with a riot of flowers during the height of summer.
In the 1970s, Ann discovered a family connection to Newfoundland dogs, which began a lifetime of Newfie companions: Phoebe, Cassie, Mandy, Ben, Meghan and Molly.
She is survived by her son, W. Robert (Bob) Kreger and his wife, Nancy Dean Kreger, her daughter Sarah (Sally) K. Dale and her husband, Dennis Dale, and her daughter, Betsy (Jenny) K. Flanagan and her husband, Thomas R. Flanagan, and her stepson, David P. Stewart and his wife, Susan Stewart, as well as three grandsons, Christopher Dale, and David and Alex Flanagan, and four stepsons, Bryan, Kyle, Barclay and Keaton Stewart.
She requested that there be no services. A private family gathering on the southern tip of Monomoy Island, Mass., will be held in her honor at a later date.
