Barbara Lawn

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Barbara (Hagstrom) Lawn, 62, died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Scottsdale on Jan. 3, 2010.

Born on Feb. 9, 1947, in Glen Cove, N.Y., she was the daughter of Carl and Blanche Hagstrom. She graduated from North Shore High School in Glen Head, N.Y. in 1964 and was a member of the Ladies Fire Auxiliary in Sea Cliff with her mom. She enjoyed spending summers in Washington D.C. while her dad was the locksmith for the Pentagon.

She moved to Jaffrey with her family in 1966. She was married to Alan Baade of Glen Cove, N.Y., with whom she had one daughter, Melody. She later married David Lawn, with whom she had two daughters, Jennifer and Cynthia.

Barbara loved to spend time with her family and visit her many friends. Her home was always open. She loved to host Thanksgiving dinner. Barbara loved family cookouts and a good game of volleyball.

In 1978, Barbara and David bought Crane’s Pastry Shop in Jaffrey. Barbara learned to make beautiful cakes for every occasion. She also loved her ceramics classes. Barbara and her daughters loved their trips to Long Island during the third week of July each year to enjoy the ocean, bagels and family. She worked in the accounts payable department at Eastern Mountain Sports for many years.

Barbara was very proud to earn her college degree from Hawthorne College in 1984. In 1988 she moved to Homosassa Springs, Fla., where she lived for almost 10 years. Barbara then moved to Arizona to be closer to Jennifer and Cynthia and their families. She worked as a waitress and spent many hours gardening and watching movies.

Barbara is survived by her three daughters: Melody (Lawn) Dymek of White Plains, N.Y., Jennifer (Lawn) Cornelius of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Cynthia (Lawn) Wheat of Anthem, Ariz.; three brothers: Carl (Skip) John Hagstrom III of Fitzwilliam, Ronald Hagstrom of Rindge and Douglas Hagstrom of Jaffrey; seven grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

A burial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery in Fitzwilliam. A celebration of her life will continue at the home of Skip and Gail Hagstrom on Royalston Road in Fitzwilliam.

In lieu of flowers or donations, the family would like you to plant something in your garden in memory of Barbara.
