Christine Scarmeas Swift

RINDGE — Christine Scarmeas Swift, 89, of Robbins Road, Rindge, died peacefully Saturday Sept. 4, 2010 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough with family by her side.

She was born April 8, 1921 in Lowell, Mass., the daughter of the late George and Kanella (Kougias) Scarmeas. She was a graduate of Lowell High School and had attended Lowell Commercial College.

Mrs. Swift had been a resident of Rindge since 1990 and had previously lived in South Windsor, Conn. since 1974. Before that she had lived in East Hartford, Conn. for many years.

She was a retired employee of the State of Connecticut’s Judicial System.

Christine enjoyed dancing and loved to travel. Her grandson said she was a great cook. She also enjoyed golf and skiing, but most of all she cherished time spent with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Virginia H. Pease of Manchester, Conn.; her son Bradford G. Swift of Rindge; two grandchildren, Michael Pease of Manchester, Conn. and Deborah A. Pease of West Hartford, Conn.; a great-granddaughter, Ellie Potter of West Hartford; her sister, Virginia Poulios of Westford Mass.; Harry Leland Swift of Jaffrey, together for 63 years; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Angie Korntonis, and four brothers, John Scarmeas, Harry Scarmeas, Milton Scarmeas and Samuel Scarmeas.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today in Hillside Cemetery, Goddard Road, Rindge.

For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

The Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, Jaffrey, is assisting the family with arrangements.
