PETERBOROUGH — Constance R. Sable, 86, of Prospect Heights died May 22, 2010, at Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough.

Mrs. Sable was born in Boston, Mass., on Sept. 6, 1923, the daughter of Anna (Finklestein) and Carney Shure. She lived in Nashua prior to moving to Peterborough 12 years ago.

She was an animal lover, gardener, environmentalist, tried-and-true New Englander, avid follower of “Dancing with the Stars,” and a passionate political activist in close contact with her local and state representatives. She was known fondly as “Team Grandmother” to the Dartmouth equestrian team, who she sustained with her famous banana bread and oatmeal cookies at every horse show from 2004 until 2008, while her granddaughter was on the team. She was a property manager at Forest Ridge in Nashua for many years and volunteered for the Red Cross as a nurse’s aide during World War II.

She is survived by her daughter, Lee Sable Freund of New York City; her granddaughter, Daisy Freund of Boston, Mass.; her brother, Melvin Shure of Searsmont, Maine; her niece, Anne Shure of Lexington, Mass.; her nephews, Kenneth Shure of Camden, Maine, and Howard Shure of Edgewater, Md.; and her beloved Corgi, Hazel.

A memorial service is planned for June 6 in Camden, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts be made to CHAD, the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital which she supported for many years, at One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon 03756, Attention of Michelle Clark.

Jellison Funeral Home of Peterborough is assisting the family with the arrangements (www.jellisonfuneralhome.com).
