Bennington resident, 80, a carpenter, firefighter

BENNINGTON — Donald G Parker Sr, 80, of Bennington, died Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough.

Born May 6, 1930, in Unity, he was the son of the late Ralph L. and Mildred H. (Stockwell) Parker.
Mr. Parker has lived in Bennington since 1973. Donald and his wife, Barbara, were married in 1965, in Newport.

Donald worked for the state of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation in bridge maintenance for 13 years. He also worked for the town of Bennington transfer station for many years. He then owned and operated a foundation business for several years, and worked as a carpenter. He also did finish carpentry and was a volunteer fireman in Bennington for 10 years.
Donald was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a former Boy Scout Leader. He also enjoyed riding with his dog and looking for wildlife.

Donald was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He was survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara J. (Glover) Parker of Bennington; two sons, Donald G. Parker Jr., and his wife, Debbie, of Stroudsburg, Pa., and David G. Parker and his wife, Corrine, of Bennington; three daughters, Susan Lawrence and her husband, Duane, of South Strafford, Vt., Shirley and her husband, Wayne Crowell, of Keene, and Nancy and her husband, Alex “Buddy” Matson, of Roxbury; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one brother, Kenneth and his wife, Mickey Parker, of Deering; and three nieces.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday May 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 32 School St., Hillsborough.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, May 20, at 2.30 p.m. in the Bennington Congregational Church. The Rev. Robert Ritchie, pastor, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Bennington.
