Edward L. Conley

GREENFIELD — Edward L. Conley, formerly of Greenfield and Milford, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Aug. 1, 2010, at the home of his daughter June Mitchell in Enfield, Conn. He was 79.

Conley was born on November 4, 1930 in Milford to the late Frank and Helen (Wright) Conley. He attended school in Milford and was a graduate of Milford High School.

After beginning further education in New Hampshire, Conley enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country honorably during the Korean War. He became a VFW and American Legion member after his discharge.

Conley resided in Greenfield for many years before moving to Nelliston, N.Y. in 1988. He recently moved to his daughter’s house in Enfield.

Conley started his career as a bus driver and served as charter driver for Contoocook Valley School District before becoming owner of Region Real Estate in Greenfield. He was also the owner and administrator of Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Greenfield, administrator of Bel Air Nursing Home in Goffstown, summer cook at Camp Union, and finally retired as owner of Edan Antiques in Nelliston, N.Y.

Conley’s hobbies and interest included cooking, coin collecting, fishing, hunting, nature, horse racing, antiques, Yankees baseball and politics. He served as a long-time selectman and was elected as First Selectman of the Town of Greenfield. His greatest joy in life, however, came from time spent with his family.

Conley was married for 37 years to the late Ann Marie (Walsh) Conley (1992), and is survived by his loving family; a son, Lance Conley and wife Jennie of Nelliston; daughters, June Mitchell of Enfield, Lynn Abbott and husband Michael of Stratham, NH, and Tanna LaChance of Fryeburg, Maine; grandsons Kyle Abbott, Brett Abbott and Shane Bussiere; granddaughters, Jenna Conley and Sarena Conley; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by a sister, Edith Darling.

Graveside services with military honors will be held on Friday at 11:30 a.m. in the Dublin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association 1 Union St. Ste. 301 Robbinsville, N.J. 08691.
