Evelyn R. Collins

JAFFREY — Evelyn Rose (Smith) Collins, 76, died on July 2, 2010, at Pheasantwood Nursing Home in Peterborough.

Mrs. Collins was born in Peterborough on Nov. 22, 1933, the daughter of Nancy (Fish) and Charles Henry Smith. She served as a librarian at Mascenic High School, in between two positions at New Hampshire Ball Bearings as an administrative assistant. She had lived in Jaffrey for the last 32 years.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW in Jaffrey as well as the American Legion in Jaffrey. She enjoyed reading, Christian and country music, people, cooking, especially baking, and her grandchildren.

Her husband, Melvin (Mike) Collins, died in 2000. She is survived by her son, Kevin Smith of Turners Falls, Mass.; two daughters, Susan Riley of Concord and Gayle DiMasi of Winooski, Vt.; two sisters, Flora Ouellette of Connecticut and Norma Holden of Peterborough; three brothers, Charles Smith of Michigan; John H. Smith of Florida; and Donald (Jimmy) Smith of Ohio; her aunt, Flora Smith of Peterborough; her companion, Louie Rickl; six grandchildren. Her sister, Gertrude Pierce, and her brother, Henry Alexander Smith, predeceased her.

Calling hours will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord St., Peterborough. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Union Congregational Church, Peterborough; the Rev. Polly Shamy will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Peterborough.
