ANTRIM — George E. Cole Sr., 87, died June 19, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Born in Bennington, he was the son of the late Charles and Grace (French) Cole. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Eugene and Daniel Cole, and two sisters, Josephine Door and Miriam Anderson.
George ran the landfill station in Antrim, and also worked for the Antrim, Highway Dept, for many years. He then owned and operated Cole Construction before his retirement.
He was proud to be a World War II Army veteran as a tank and truck driver and also a sharpshooter. He was a life member of VFW Post 8268, Bennington, and Myers, Prescott, Olson American Legion Post 50 Antrim.
George loved having his grandchildren and great-grandchildren around him, and loved playing guitar and listening to country music.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Louise (Sweeney) Cole, of Antrim; two sons, George Cole Jr., and his wife, Elizabeth of Antrim and Gary Cole and his wife, Michelle, of Jaffrey; a brother, Robert Cole of Bennington; a sister, Hattie Trepanier of Pelham; five grandchildren, Michelle and Greg Reed of Antrim, Brian Cole of Antrim, Michael and Nicole Cole of Barrington, Jesse and Zack Cole of Jaffrey; four great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Reed and Jacob, Caleb and Riley Cole, and their great dear friends Earl and Barbara Bowling and Frances White.
Graveside services and military honors will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in Maplewood Cemetery, Antrim. The Rev. Peggi Boyce, pastor of Antrim Presbyterian Church, will officiate.
