Hazel B. Keenan

Peterborough native, 89, worked at post office

JAFFREY — Hazel B. Keenan, 89, of Libby Court Jaffrey, formerly of Peterborough, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 18, 2010, surrounded by her family.

She was born March 1, 1921, in Peterborough, daughter of the late John H. and Velida (Burnett) Brenner.

She was a 1938 graduate of the former Peterborough High School where she was a star basketball player on the girls basketball team.

Mrs. Keenan worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Peterborough for more than 17 years.

She and her husband enjoyed snowmobiling in the Pittsburg area.

She had taken several cruises in the eastern Caribbean and once cruised to Bermuda with more than 20 family members and friends.

Most cherished to Hazel was the time she spent with her family, especially with her great-grandchildren.

On Sept. 15,1941, she married her husband of 57 years, Martin J. Keenan Jr. He died June 14, 1998.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas B. Keenan of Peterborough and Kevin P. Keenan of Rindge; two grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Burrage of Jaffrey; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son John Martin Keenan in 1962, as well as her sisters Pearl Bishop in 2000, Christine B. Hill in 2006, and Marcelline M. Brenner in 2008.

As per her request, there will be no calling hours.

Private graveside committal services will be at the convenience of the family in St. Peter Cemetery Peterborough.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Hospice at HCS, P.O. Box 496, Peterborough 03458.

The Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River St., Jaffrey, is assisting the family with arrangements.
