HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Herbert J. Androes, 92, formerly of Hutchinson, died Aug. 1, 2010, in Peterborough.
He was born April 25, 1918, in Buhler, Kan., the son of Bernard and Maria Vogt Androes. He was a 1937 graduate of Buhler High School. He was in the Army Air Corps, stationed in California, from 1943 to 1946.
Herbert lived in Hutchinson all of his life, moving to New Hampshire in 2009 to live with his daughter, Valara Kottle. He was an auto machinist for Ragland Auto Parts, motel manager for Trails West Motel and later a custodian at Prairie Hills Middle School. He belonged to the First Mennonite Church, Hutchinson.
On June 18, 1945, he married Velma Manges in Hutchinson. She died on December 13, 1998.
Survivors include three daughters: Donna Snyder (Dan) Nickerson of Kansas, Valara Kottle (Dan) of New Ipswich and Cheri Craig (Larie) Fayetteville, Ark.; nine grandchildren: Brian, Susie, Holly, Dana, Michelle, Corey, Jaime, Brady, Desi; 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elsie Dyck, brother Ervin Androes and grandson Toby Ratzlaff.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m., Saturday at Elliott Chapel in Hutchinson, with Pastor Miles Reimer presiding. Burial will be in Hoffnungsau Cemetery in Buhler, Kan. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
