Hubert T. Pickford

DUBLIN — Hubert T. Pickford, 91, of Goldmine Road died June 11, 2010, at Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough following a brief illness.

Born July 29, 1918, in Dublin, he was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Murphy) Pickford. Mr. Pickford was a lifelong resident of Dublin and was a 1935 graduate of the former Peterborough High School.

He served as a tech sergeant with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a 40-year member of the Cheney Armstrong American Legion Post No. 5 of Peterborough.

Mr. Pickford’s lifelong career was that of a plumber, owning and operating Pickford Plumbing and Heating until he was in his 80s.

He enjoyed puttering around his house. He was never bored as “there was always something to do.” He kept up with current events by reading and watching news on TV. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family.

He was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church of the Divine Mercy Parish.

His wife of 62 years, Anna (Hurley) Pickford, died Feb. 21, 2009. Following her death, he continued to live alone and maintained his independence in his own home, right up until last Thursday when he went to the hospital.

He is survived by his two daughters, Kathleen Stacy and her husband, Gary, of Antrim and Mary Edick and her husband, Bob, of Dublin; three grandsons, Brian Stacy, Adam Stacy and his wife, Kandace, and Thomas Edick; a granddaughter, Theresa Edick; two great granddaughters, Emma and Paytra Stacy; many nieces and nephews including his nephew and close friend Michael Walker and his wife, Patricia, of Dublin.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street (Route 202 south) in Jaffrey.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Church of the Divine Mercy Parish, 18 Vine St., Peterborough. Burial in St. Peter’s Cemetery will immediately follow.
