James Monroe McNulty

Former New Ipswich resident a pilot for Continental

NASHUA — James Monroe McNulty of the Hunt Community in Nashua, formerly of New Ipswich, died May 8, 2010.

He was born Feb. 22, 1922, in Lawton, Okla., to Lorene Maude (Burum) McNulty and James Joseph McNulty.

He was married to Lorene (Adams) McNulty (deceased, 2002) for 54 years.
He attended Cameron College in Lawton, Okla., where as a young man he worked as a flight instructor until joining the Army Air Corps in 1942. He began his service by ferrying planes from the United States to South America and Africa. At the end of the war he was stationed in what is now Union of Myanmar, flying in the China, India, Burma Theater known as the “Hump.” He returned to Texas and joined S Airlines, which became Pioneer Airlines and finally Continental Airlines. He flew for 35 1/2 years as a commercial pilot before retiring in 1982.

He is survived by his daughter, Kleta, and her husband, Craig Dudley, of New Ipswich; his grandson Random Dudley of New Ipswich; his granddaughter Catherine Dudley of Corvallis, Ore.; his grandson Shawn McNulty of Beaumont, Texas, his granddaughter Kortni McNulty of Nederland, Texas, and one great-grandson, Daniel Lee McNulty.

He was predeceased by a son, Daniel Joseph McNulty, of Lumberton, Texas, in 2004.

He is also survived by two half sisters, Margery Diamond of Eureka, Mo., and Rita Loehr of Pacific, Mo., and a stepsister, Beverly McNulty of Cedar Hills, Mo. He is also very fondly remembered by Paula Pancorba, of Andover, Mass., who as a child spent many years in the McNulty household awaiting her own parent’s departure from Cuba.

He loved water skiing, which he practiced well into his 60s, amazing family and friends with antics on trick skis. He loved welding and electronics, and he was an avid R.C. model airplane builder and flyer. He was also a ham radio operator, K5PSZ.

He will be fondly remembered by many friends and missed by his family.
Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.
