John Moran Cochran Wilson Jr.

SHARON — John Moran Cochran Wilson Jr., 85, of Sharon died May 22, 2010, at Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough.

He was born on Nov. 5, 1924, in Springhill, Nova Scotia, the son of the Rev. John Wilson and Ida (Eldredge) Wilson.

John joined the Canadian Army - Ontario Regiment during World War II. As a tank driver, he saw action in North Africa, Italy, and later in Holland. After the war, he enrolled at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, then joined his parents in the United States and graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautical engineering. Most of his working life was in the Research and Development Division at New Hampshire Ball Bearings.

While in the army, he developed an interest in radio communication, which continued during his life as an amateur radio operator.

He will always be remembered for his love for reading, his incredible memory, and his wonderful stories. The McCoy Road gang will remember the fog horn call for dinner that he was well known for!

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara; his son David and wife Robyn of Bradenton, Fla.; his daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Meddeb of New York City. He has a grandson, Camden, and granddaughter, Heather from David and Robyn and a great-grandson, Jason.

John was predeceased by his brother, the Rev. William C. Wilson, but survived by his sister-in-law, Marilyn C. Wilson of Salem, Mass.; two nephews, Robert and Charles, and a niece, Josephine Peterson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at All Saints Church with the Rev. Adrian Robbins-Cole officiating. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
