Former Jaffrey man an officer on Police Dept.

PORT ORANGE, Fla. — Kevin P. Rivard, 72, of Port Orange and formerly of Jaffrey, died peacefully at the Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, Daytona Beach, on Nov. 20, 2009, following a brief illness.

Born March 27, 1937, in Jaffrey, he was the son of Henry and Virginia (Wall) Rivard.

He was a 1955 graduate of Conant High School in Jaffrey.
He served with the U.S. Army National Guard during the Berlin crisis. He was a member of John Humiston American Legion Post 11, Jaffrey.

He was a carpenter for Frederick H. Smith in Jaffrey for several years. He later joined the Jaffrey Police Department and was a detective when he retired in 1984. Following his retirement from the Police Department, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Peterborough, retiring in 1999.

He was a member of the N.H. Retired Police Officers Association.
He has been a resident of Port Orange since 2003.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid golfer. He was a founding member of the Father’s Day Invitational Golf Classic, the Crane Lake Golf Association and the Hole in One Club.

He was known for his sense of humor and his ability to tell a story or a joke as no one else could.

He most cherished the time spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Deanna (Edmunds) Rivard of Port Orange; three daughters Robin Bussiere and Wendy Duval, both of Jaffrey, and Melanie Lizotte of Dublin; four sons Andrew Lawn, Daniel Lawn, and James Lawn, all of Jaffrey, and Gregory Lawn of Kennebunk, Maine; two sisters, Patricia Farrell and Virginia Star Kachadoorian, both of Jaffrey; his brother, Peter Rivard of Jaffrey; 22 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; two aunts, several cousins and close friends.

A brother, David E. Rivard, died Sept. 16, 1991.

Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 4 at Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River St. (Route 202 South), Jaffrey.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Dec. 5 at West Rindge Methodist Church/The Vineyard, Mountain Road, Rindge.

Private burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Jaffrey.
