PETERBOROUGH — Phillip Schell, 92, died Aug. 24, 2010, at the Pheasant Wood Nursing Home in Peterborough.
Mr. Schell was born Jan. 7, 1918, in Schenectady, N.Y., the son of Wilhellmina Dufel and Leslie P. Schell. He lived most of his life in Scotia, N.Y., and moved to Francestown five years ago to be closer to his family. Mr. Schell had only lived in Peterborough for eight months prior to his death.
Mr. Schell was a longtime employee of General Electric and prior to his retirement in 1980, he worked as a designer for railroad brake systems. He also performed this service for the American Locomotive Company.
Mr. Schell was known by his loving family and friends as a true outdoorsmen. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and hiking. He had a great passion for trains, people and storytelling. While living in Scotia, he was an avid member of the volunteer fire department. As a resident of New Hampshire, Mr. Schell belonged to the Gourmet Club in Francestown and frequented the Senior Center in Jaffery. He will be missed dearly by the friends he has made over the past few years.
Mr. Schell was predeceased by his dearly beloved wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Schell, and his older sister, Elizabeth Schell.
He leaves behind his two children, David Schell of Francestown and Linda Jackson of Schenectady, N.Y. He is also survived by his younger sister, Margaret Lukas of Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Mr. Schell will also be missed by his five loving grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held by the family on a later date in Schenectady, N.Y.
