JAFFREY — Stella T. Migotsky of Jaffrey died Aug. 5, 2010, peacefully at the home of her eldest son with family surrounding her after a short fight with stomach cancer. She was 87.
She was born in Huntington Station, N.Y. on May 7, 1923 to Joseph and Anna Tworzyanski and attended Huntington High School. In 1945, she married Eugene Migotsky and lived in various places ranging from Ann Arbor, Mich. to Saratoga, Calif. After a move to Lynnfield, Mass., she returned to California where she received an associate’s degree from Harbor College in Los Angeles. She was particularly proud of this accomplishment because she earned her degree after she turned 50.
She held various administrative assistant positions, the last — and longest — as administrative assistant to the Engineering Dept. at the Port Authority of New Orleans. The last place Migotsky moved with her husband was Slidell, La., where the couple spent more than 30 years showing friends and family around the French Quarter in New Orleans.
Migotsky also enjoyed an occasional outing to the local casinos with her best friends who she referred to as her “sisters.”
Several years after her husband died, Migotsky moved to Jaffrey in 2009 where she continued to be an avid reader of all kinds of books, often reading one to three per week. Her interests ranged from Agatha Christie mysteries to the Bible. She continued to do the Jumble word puzzle, and sometimes called her son in Bellevue, Wash. to discuss the answers. In Slidell she was a member of the Episcopal Church and in Jaffrey she became a member of the Jaffrey Presbyterian Church, where her oldest son is the minister.
Migotsky was a great mother to her children throughout her life. She was always loving, patient, even-tempered and wise. She knew when to let go of each child as he or she grew up. She was the same with all her grandchildren. Society doesn’t give medals or promotions for motherhood. If they did, she would be a five-star general.
All her surviving sons were in the house with her when she passed away.
She is survived by her brothers, Paul Tworzyanski of Alpine, Ala., and Chester Tworzyanski and his wife, Gerda, of Delray Beach, Fla.; her sons, Stephen and his wife, Fay, of Jaffrey, Mark and his wife, Nivart, of Bellevue, Wash., John and his wife, Susan, of Scarsdale, N.Y., and Christopher and his wife, Sharon, of Mahomet, Ill.; grandchildren, David, Rebecca and Jennifer of Jaffrey, Sean, Michael and Nicole of Bellevue, and Spencer and Tess of Scarsdale; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene, in 2002, her daughter, Alexandra (Sandy) Migotsky in 2006, and her son E. Gregg in 1963.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Home Healthcare, Hospice & Community Services, Community Lane, Peterborough, N.H. 03458. www.HCSservices.org.
