HANCOCK — Susan Davis Allgood passed away at Cheshire Medical Center, Keene, on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, after an 18-month battle with breast cancer.
She was born to Alvin and Freda Davis on Feb. 12, 1966, at Brattleboro (Vt.) Memorial Hospital.
She attended Chesterfield Elementary School and graduated from Keene High School in 1984.
After high school, she worked for Baker’s and D.J.’s in Brattleboro. She was a graduate of Keene State College.
She moved to California in 1991 and married Michael Daughtry on Dec. 21, 1994. They moved to Hancock in 1999. He died of cancer on Sept. 7, 2001.
She married Donald “Ollie” Allgood on July 2, 2003.
She worked for Granite Bank in Peterborough, as a self-employed virtual assistant, for Mathewson Companies in Hancock and for the Student Conservation Association in Charlestown.
Susan had an instinct for planning and order, and lived her life to the highest standards, being nonjudgmental and dedicated to her friends.
She had a wonderful sense of fun and continued to be a positive role model even in her last days as she began to lose her battle with cancer, playfully ordering visitors not to do wheelies in their wheelchairs in her hospital room.
She protected those she loved, especially animals. She loved Yoga, writing poetry and trips to Popham Beach, Maine.
One colleague wrote about her, “I think that Susan probably left a mark on everyone she ever met. She set an example that is not easy to follow, but worthy of the attempt.”
She is survived by her parents of West Chesterfield; her husband, Ollie Allgood of Hancock; her sisters, Carolyn Smith and Nancy Aichele, both of West Chesterfield; her stepsons, Donovan Daughtry of Los Angeles, Calif., and Connor Allgood of Hancock; her sisters-in-law, Beverly Patten of Hancock and Linda Clark of Brea, Calif.; and her nephew, Jesse Smith of Keene.
A memorial service will be held at the First Universalist Church in West Chesterfield on Friday, March 12, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Student Conservation Association in Charlestown or to the First Universalist Church, P.O. Box 10, West Chesterfield 03466.
