HARRISVILLE-- Warren G. "Bimbo" Thayer, 80, of Harrisville, died Aug. 12, 2010 at his home.

He was born in Keene on July 15, 1930, the son of Guy W. and Helen (Brown) Thayer and resided in Harrisville all of his life. He graduated from Keene High School in 1948 and then graduated from Bentley School of Business.

Thayer was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Purple Heart.

At the time of his retirement, he was vice president of human resources at Monadnock Paper Mills where he had been employed for 22 years. He had previously worked at Cheshire Mills in Harrisville for many years.

Thayer was a member of the Community Church of Harrisville and Chesham. He had served as a selectman in Harrisville and had been politically and socially active in town for a number of years. He was an accomplished pilot and builder of radio-controlled planes.

He was a sportsman who enjoyed hunting. mountain climbing and fishing. He loved history, traveling and, most importantly, he enjoyed being with and around his family.

Thayer was predeceased by his wife, Mary (O'Gara) Thayer, who died Jan. 1, 1998.

Survivors include: his wife Helen Pracon-Thayer; his sons, Peter and his wife Pam of Harrisville, John of Rindge, James and his wife Belinda of Springfield, Vt., and Christopher and his wife Eileen of Epsom; two daughters, Maureen Fitch of Windham Vt., and Judy Thayer of Keene; two sisters, Shirley Chamberlain of Keystone Heights Fla., and Carol Petts of Spencer, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, Abe, Nate, Seth, Marly, Andrew, Brittany, Sarah, Ana, Olivia and Quinn; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Community Church of Harrisville and Chesham in Harrisville. Friends are invited. Calling hours will be held today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 33 Marlboro Street in Keene.
