Faculty recital features new work for clarinet

A faculty and guest artists recital featuring works written for two clarinets and piano will be held at the Redfern Arts Center at Keene State College on March 26, at 7:30 p.m.

Clarinetist Elizabeth Gunlogson, a faculty member in the UNH Department of Music, will join KSC music faculty Stephanie Jenkins, clarinet, and Maura Glennon, piano, in a program of compositions written for either two clarinets with piano or clarinet, bass clarinet and piano.

A highlight of the recital will be “Mysterium Coniunctionis for Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, and Piano” by Gary Kulesha, which is based on a book of the same title by Carl Jung and was composed in 1980.

The program will open and close with two technically challenging works for piano and two clarinets, Mendelssohn’s “Second Concert Piece” and “Il Convegno” by Ponchielli.

Additionally, Gunlogson and Jenkins will present a newly composed piece for two clarinets written by New Hampshire composer William Fletcher for Stephanie Jenkins, “Five Blackbirds: Reflections on Wallace Stevens for Two Clarinets.”

Tickets are $10 and $5. For reservations, call the box office at 358-2168 or visit www.keene.edu/racbp.
