Owls and waterfowl sought this weekend

The Harris Center for Outdoor Education has two activities planned for the upcoming weekend.

A Young Birders Club Willard Pond Owl Prowl will be held on March 22, from 7 to 8 p.m. Naturalists and club leaders Henry Walters and Cynthia Nichols will lead participants in a search for owls at the Willard Pond Wildlife Sanctuary. After the prowl, everyone will gather inside the Willard Pond cottage, where there will be hot chocolate and a toasty fire. This event is open to all ages. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight. Meet in the parking lot at the end of Willard Pond Road.

The 31st annual Waterfowl Safari along the Connecticut River will be held March 23, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. There will be two groups: one heading north from Hinsdale and the other heading south from Charlestown. A variety of ducks and other species northward-bound in spring migration is likely to be seen. The two groups will meet at Herrickā€™s Cove in Vermont for lunch and sharing tales. Bring water, lunch and binoculars. Carpools return about 1 p.m.
