Poet speaking at DelRossi’s

Poet John Hodgen will speak at DelRossi’s Trattoria on June 8, at 7:30 p.m.

The event is being put on to help The Monadnock Writers’ Group fundraise the last portion of its $10,000 dollar endowment drive. This endowment fund will be placed under the administration of The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation to help support Monadnock Writers’ Group programs.

Hodgen’s previous book, “Grace,” won the 2005 Donald Hall Prize for Poetry from Associated Writers Programs (AWP). Two earlier books also won awards — “In My Father’s House” won the Bluestem Award, and “Bread Without Sorrow,” the Balcones Poetry Prize.

Hodgen, visiting assistant professor of English at Assumption College, is the recipient of numerous other awards, including the Foley Poetry Prize, the Ruth Stone Poetry Prize, the Grolier Prize, an Arvon Foundation Award, and the 2000 Massachusetts Cultural Commission Artist Foundation Grant in Poetry.

He is also member if the Monadnock Pastoral Poets whose collection of poetry, “On The Monadnock,” was published in China in 2006.

A suggested $20 donation will be asked at the door.

To make reservations for the event, call DelRossi’s at 563-7195.

Hodgen also has agreed to participate in a small private dinner prior to the reading with background music by The Grumbling Rustics. For more information about dinner reservations, call Rodger Martin at 602-525-4715. It is expected to sell out quickly.
