Monadnock Music begins 49th season

Monadnock Music will begin its 49th season on July 12 with a series of concerts at the Peterborough Town House and a dozen free concerts throughout towns in the region.

The Peterborough Town House series begins on Saturday, July 12, at 7:30 p.m. featuring the Monadnock Chamber Orchestra performing an all Mendelssohn concert featuring violinist Tessa Clark and conducted by Gil Rose.

On July 26, at 7:30 p.m., selections from Geoffrey Burleson’s forthcoming solo CDs, “Camille Saint-Saens, Complete Piano Works, Volumes 4 and 5” will be played by Burleson, as well as works of J.S. Bach, Franz Liszt, Irving Fine and Frank Zappa.

The music of Aaron Copland and Lukas Foss will be performed by the Harvard Summer Chorus and Boston Modern Orchestra Project with Andrew Clark, conductor, on Aug. 3, at 3 p.m.

The chamber symphonies of John Adams will be presented by the Boston Modern Orchestra Project on Friday, Aug. 16, at 7:30 p.m.

A series of free Village Concerts will begin at the Louise Shonk Kelly Recital Hall at Dublin School on Sunday, July 13, at 3 p.m., with the Spektral Quartet performing the music of Steve Reich and Beethoven. This concert is a co-production with the Walden School.

On Thursday, July 17, at 7:30 p.m. the complete songs of Edward MacDowell will be performed at the Deering Community Church.

At the Universalist Unitarian Church in Milford, the Monadnock Players Piano Trio will perform music of Walter Piston and Ernst Chausson on Saturday, July 19, at 7:30 p.m. The trio will be at the Greenfield Meeting House on Sunday, July 20, at 3 p.m. to perform music of Amy Beach and Robert Schumann.

A solo recital with cellist Rafael Popper-Keizer will be presented at Emmanuel Church in Dublin on Sunday, July 27, at 3 p.m.

Music of Mozart with the Monadnock Players String Quintet will be performed Thursday, July 31, at 7:30 p.m. at the Jaffrey Center Meeting House. The quintet will be at the Francestown Old Meeting House on Saturday, Aug. 2, at 7:30 p.m. to perform music of Irving Fine and Brahms.

A performance of Benjamin Britten’s “Curlew River” will be performed at All Saints’ Church in Peterborough on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 7:30 p.m. The Monadnock Quartet will present music of George Chadwick and Bartok on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 3 p.m. at the Unitarian Church in Wilton Center.

The final free concert of the season will be on Thursday, Aug. 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson Congregational Church featuring the music of Charles Ives and Claude Debussy performed by the Monadnock Quartet.

No tickets or reservations required to attend Village Concerts. Voluntary donations to support the Monadnock Music Village Concerts will be accepted at the performance.
