Circus, vaudeville show to benefit Children and the Arts festival

Davis & Davis & Friends will present a Family Circus and Vaudeville Show at the Peterborough Community Center on Wednesday, July 2, at 7 p.m., and Thursday, July 3, at 10 a.m.

For this benefit to support the 2015 Children and the Arts Festival, Davis & Davis & Friends will unite the talents of local children from the Silver Lining Youth Circus and seasoned professionals offered in two shows.

Following the morning performance, Davis & Davis & Friends will offer a circus skills workshop including plate spinning, scarf juggling, hooping, flower sticks, and diabolo. All children attending the morning show are welcome to participate in the workshop.

Members of the Silver Lining Youth Circus will juggle, unicycle, tumble, and clown. Long-time performers Rick and Jackie Davis will bring back their clown and mime show, offer some lessons in Totally Useless Skills, with musical talent added to round out the performance. Face painting and refreshments will be available.

Rick Davis, a former clown with Ringling Brothers, Barnum & Bailey Circus, is a veteran entertainer who has performed at DisneyWorld, on Broadway, on HBO, in Ringling Brothers Circus, at the White House, and in 15 countries. He is the author of three books on the subject of Totally Useless Skills.

Jackie Davis, EdM, is the founding director of the Silver Lining Circus Camp. She has been promoting positive youth development through circus arts since 1996. Trained as a classical mime with Marcel Marceau, Jackie performed for several years at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT Center. She founded the annual Hilltop Circus in Wilton and co-founded the Flying Gravity Circus. She works to develop youth circus skills programs worldwide and is currently pursuing her PhD, with a focus on the impact of circus arts on youth development.

These performances will benefit the Children and the Arts Festival as a gesture of thanks from Davis & Davis & Friends for its commitment to connecting the arts with Monadnock area children and youth.

Tickets for these family events will be available at the door only and are $5 per adult or $3 per child (with $15 maximum per family).
