Mystery writer at Toadstool Bookshop

"The Tempest" will be simulcast live on the Peterborough Players big screen on Saturday at 1 pm. Based on Shakespeare’s play, this is the third production in the 2012-13 season of The Met: Live in HD opera series.  Composer Thomas Adès conducts the Metropolitan Opera premiere of his own work, with baritone Simon Keenlyside starring as Prospero. Director Robert Lepage recreates the interior of 18th-century La Scala in this inventive staging. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for students.

Mystery writer Archer Mayor will be at The Toadstool Bookshop in Peterborough on Saturday at 2 p.m. for a free discussion of his latest book, “Paradise City.”

Mayor has written 23 mysteries featuring Brattleboro, Vt., detective Joe Gunther. A 25-year veteran firefighter and EMT, Mayor is also an investigator for the sheriff’s department and the state medical examiner in Vermont. He lives in Newfane, Vt. His books are recognized for their locale, authentic characters and realistic investigative procedures.
