Singers needed to participate in  Monadnock Music festival chorus

The Monadnock Music Festival is looking for singers to participate in its first festival chorus.

On July 27, Artistic Director Gil Rose will conduct “Suite for Violin and American Gamelan” and the premiere of the festival chorus, performing “La Koro Sutro.”

Both works are composed by the late American composer Lou Harrison, who was noted for incorporating elements of music from non-Western cultures into his work.

“La Koro Sutro” features the American Gamelan, Harrison’s adaptation of the Javanese instruments (played by six percussionists), organ and harp.

An open rehearsal/audition will be held June 6, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at ConVal High School for all interested singers.

Commitment for singers will be four or five preparatory rehearsals in the month of June and early July and the following dates the week of the performance: July 25 at ConVal; July 26 evening; July 27 afternoon dress rehearsal and 7:30 p.m. performance at the Town House.

Anyone planning to attend the June 6 open rehearsal/auditions is requested to send an email to Note voice type and a short paragraph about singing experience.
