Contra dancing at Town House June 1

The first Saturday contra dance on June 1 at the Peterborough Town House will feature Mary Wesley calling, with musicians Pete Sutherland, Oliver Scanlon and Colin McCaffrey.

Caller Mary Wesley is active in Young Traditions Vermont, a nonprofit fostering youth involvement in traditional dance and music, for which she helps coordinate various workshops, concerts and an annual Youth Showcase.

Multi-instrumentalist Pete Sutherland will be joined by his teenage protege, fiddler Oliver Scanlon, and Colin McCaffrey on guitar.

The dancing begins at 8 p.m., with an optional introductory workshop beforehand.

Admission is $8 or $6 for students and seniors.

The Monadnock Folklore Society has presented contra dances and concerts of traditional music since 1982.
