Short-term committee to oversee Heritage Museum

FRANCESTOWN — At Monday’s Select Board meeting, the board agreed to have a small, short-term committee manage the functions of the Heritage Museum, until a single curator for the museum can be agreed upon by the committee.

Select Board Chair Betsy Hardwick said at Monday’s meeting that she had discussed the issue with the Zoning Board of Adjustment Vice Chair Charlie Pyle, and both agreed a committee comprised of one member of the Fire Department, the Heritage Commission and from the Francestown Improvement and Historical Society would make an appropriate committee to oversee the Heritage Museum until a person is selected to serve as overseer.

Following this suggestion Francestown Selectman Scott Carbee noted that the museum was built by the Fire Department and then turned over to the town to take care of it at the dedication ceremony on Aug. 4. He said that since the Select Board represents the town that a member of the board should also be a part of this short-term committee.

“I think it’s the responsibility of the town,” Carbee said.

Fire Chief Larry Kullgren said at Monday’s meeting that the Fire Department still wants to be a part of the museum, including the building’s maintenance and progression.

Heritage Commission Chair Maureen vonRosenvinge said Monday that the commission wants to help and be a part of the committee and work with other organizations to help raise money for the museum.

The board agreed that the temporary committee will also include one member of the Select Board.

In an interview Wednesday, Town Administrator Mike Branley confirmed that he would be representing the Select Board on the museum committee.

vonRosenvinge said at Monday’s meeting that the Heritage Commission would be discussing who its representative will be at their next meeting this Saturday. No members from Historical Society were represent at Monday’s meeting to confirm a representative for the committee.
