Peterborough: Unitarian Church offers special service

Pageant celebrating solstice

Peterborough Unitarian Universalist Church offers special service

The children and adults of the Unitarian Universalist Church will present “Yule Forest,” a winter solstice pageant, in the sanctuary of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Peterborough on Sunday from 10:15 to 11 a.m.

Fairies, animals, and elves will go deep into the ‘sacred birch grove’ to pay a visit to the Winter Maiden Goddess and the Oak Queen, who reveal the secret to the return of the sun and a brighter future for the world.

On the shortest day of the year, throughout the ages, with the greening of the household, lighting of candles, reveling with song, dance, food and drink, man has driven away the darkness and celebrated the return of the sun. It is a time of reverence and hope as the cycle of rebirth at midwinter comes again.

All are welcome to attend this free performance. A reception will follow.
