MAPS hosts Business After Hours Thursday

MAPS Counseling Service will note the opening of its new offices in Peterborough with a Business After Hours reception on Thursday.

MAPS, founded in 1973, also has offices in at 19 Federal Street in Keene. Business After Hours is sponsored by the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce and will be held 5:30 p.m. to 7 p. m. Refreshments and tours of the new offices will be available.

The new office, located at 9 Vose Farm Road, offers a wide range of counseling and psychotherapy services with a staff of five senior staff clinicians. The staff is prepared to help people dealing with a wide range of issues, including depression, trauma, sexual and physical abuse, phobias and fears, divorce, school or behavior problems, anger management grief and bereavement and group support for people coping with chronic pain or cancer.

MAPS, as a United Way agency, professionally integrates psychotherapy and spirituality and has served the Monadnock region for 40 years. Previously, the Peterborough office had been located at 44 Concord Street in Peterborough.

“Over the past seven years, MAPS has experienced phenomenal growth towards becoming the largest provider of outpatient mental health care in the Monadnock Region, “ said Dr. Gary Barnes, executive director and clinical director at MAPS. “Nowhere has this growth been stronger than in our Peterborough Office.

“What was once a small satellite with three part time therapists is now a growing practice with the equivalent of four full-time therapists,” he said. “We are especially pleased with our expansion of child services and with our recent partnering with some of the region’s schools to make counseling more accessible. MAPS is anticipating further growth in Peterborough towards our ultimate goal of having six full time therapists working exclusively from the Peterborough site.”
