Temple proposes multiple new ordinances
Amendment 1: A proposed ordinance would create an aquifer protection overlay district. It would prohibit businesses such as automobile repair shops, gas stations, hazardous waste disposal facilities, junkyards and outdoor storage of chemicals or road salt. Existing businesses would continue to operate, but could not expand.
Amendment 2: A proposed ordinance would protect local wetlands. All properties that border or contain waterbodies would require 75-foot setback or a 50 foot vegetative buffer. It also forbids the use of hazardous material such as fertilizer and pesticides within the setback, and removing vegetation, except invasive or poisonous plants. Pre-existing structures are not affected, but can not expand.
Amendment 3: A proposed ordinance would affect lighting in town. It requires shielding for outdoor lighting higher than a 100-watt bulb. Maximum height restriction for lighting is set at 40 feet. Moving, fluttering, blinking and neon lights aren’t permitted. Lamps with 100 watts or less can be used without restriction. Holiday decorations, emergency lighting, lighting of flags, and existing installations are exempt.
