Candidates in Rindge for the open select board seat traded a few barbs during candidates night on Monday.

“I don’t believe my opponent has ever suggested anything to save the taxpayers money other than to cut the budget which would result in a reduction of services, or to vote against the replacement of much needed equipment which resulted in expensive repairs and then and increase in the cost by waiting a year,” said incumbent Selectwoman Roberta Oeser, to her opponent Tom Coneys.

“If I knew I was going to be accosted by my opponent I would’ve brought some ammo,” said Coneys, following Oeser’s introduction. “I think turnover on the board of selectmen is a good thing.”

The two candidates highlighted a number of contested races in town, which includes school board, planning board, budget advisory committee, and library trustees.

Heidi Graff and Alicia Stensersen are both running for the school board seat left vacant by Forbes Farmer.

Jason Paolino, Holly Koski, and Dennis Casey are running for two, three-year terms on the planning board. Paolino is an incumbent and Koski is currently an alternate.

Philip Motta, Karl J. Pruter, Cheryl R. McCabe Charron, and David Graham are vying for two seats on the budget advisory committee. None of the candidates are incumbent.

Incumbents Roberta D. Gordenstein and Karla J. MacLeod are taking on newcomer Craig Jensen for two library trustee positions.

Over 100 people were in attendance at the meeting, with many saying it was the most they had seen at a candidates night in years, if not ever.
