I recently returned from vacation and happened to be walking by the Sharon Arts Center Downtown Galleries’ window. I was arrested by what I saw. Was it a person? No, two people. A pair of shoes. One glance was not enough; it was too much to take in and just enough to wake me.

Stories from ‘Along the Silk Road’

With mixed emotions, Alison Meltzer explained the origins of the Afghan garments she loaned the Mariposa Museum for its “Along the Silk Road” exhibit. In an interview earlier this month, she described how the traditional clothing had brought to mind the exchange student who, instead of returning home to Afghanistan, vanished last spring in a bid for residency in Canada.

JAFFREY — Voters approved $7,989,550 in spending, including $7,848,550 in total operating expenses and $141,000 to replace a bridge on Gilmore Pond Road, at a Special Town Meeting on Thursday night.

JAFFREY – Voters approved $7,989,550 in spending, including $7,848,550 in total operating expenses and $141,000 to replace a bridge on Gilmore Pond Road, at a Special Town Meeting Thursday night.

Voters rejected an effort to amend the $7,848,550 proposed budget to $7,811,679, a $36,871 reduction. Voters also defeated a warrant article calling for $27,000 to buy a new police cruiser.
