Wood Artisan Craig AltobelloThe Harris Center for Conservation Education is an exhibit of works by Peterborough wood artisan Craig Altobello. Altobello uses an inlay technique called marquetry to create remarkable images in wood. He skillfully uses the grain, figure, and colors of thin pieces of wood to mesh inside a base layer. It s like painting with wood. He uses primarily North American woods, including local species like locust, apple, hickory, aspen, butternut, and figured maples. His colorful wood panels are inspired by nature, including birds, migration, landscapes, and leaves. Twenty percent of the sales will be donated to the Harris Center. Reception runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Harris Center. Exhibit will be on display in the Babbitt Room through October. For details, contact aldrich@harriscenter.org or call 525-3394.

Dance on Film: An Interactive Touring Kiosk is a touring installation featuring video clips of dance performances over the past 75 years at Jacob's Pillow, each approximately one minute long and accompanied by descriptive text. The video clips feature modern dance pioneering figures including Ted Shawn, Ruth St. Denis, Jos Limn, and Merce Cunningham, and contemporaries including Tero Saarinen, Black Grace, Doug Varone, Judith Jamison, and many others. Choices may be made according to name, genre (ballet, modern, non-Western, etc.), or era. Viewers may also test their knowledge with a fun guessing function. The kiosk can be enjoyed by individuals or groups and will be free and available to the public Sept. 10 through Oct. 1, Monday through Friday, noon to 4 p.m. in the lobby of the Redfern Arts Center.
