Smullen, Voorhees take home wins
After a two week layoff the Conval wrestling team returned to competition in Keene last week at a tournament with teams from across the divisions of New Hampshire as well as teams from Vermont and Mass.
ConVal finished out of the top 10, with only two wrestlers making it to the consolation semifinals before being eliminated. Adam Smullen competed in the 160-pound division and went 3-2 on the day, with all three of his victories coming by pin. John Voorhees also went 3-2 on the day in the 220-pound division, winning two by pin.
Also scoring points for ConVal were Eric Wall (113 pounds 2-2), Mike Allen (138 pounds, 1-2), Jake Rupp 145 pounds, 1-2), Josh Curran (152 pounds, 1-2), and Aaron Taylor (170 pounds, 1-2.)
On Tuesday, ConVal hosted two dual meets. In the first match, ConVal lost to a strong Hollis team 45–16. The Cougars had just three wins – Eric Wall (106 pounds) by pin, Mike Allen (138 pounds) 17-9 and John Voorhees by forfeit.
In the second match vs Pelham, ConVal managed a close 39-38 win. Earning wins for ConVal were: Eric Wall in the 106-pound division, Mike Allen at 138, Jake Rupp at 145, Josh Curran at 152, Adam Smullen at 160, Jordan Loll at 220 and John Voorhees 285. ConVal’s overall team record now sits at 1-3.
Next, ConVal will travel to Milford tonight for a makeup of Monday’s canceled meet. The meet will start at 5 p.m.
