We should learn issue from afar

As a long time hospice nurse, I have been a supporter of legalizing marijuana for medical use. Last year New Hampshire became one of 21 states to authorize legal use of marijuana for pain in the terminally ill and other medically diagnosed conditions. NH is now implementing the process of distribution for patient use.

I do not believe we should rush to legalize recreational use of marijuana. We need to see the roll out of NH medical dispensaries and deal with any “glitches” that may arise. And, as a state, we have the opportunity to watch Colorado and Washington, and use them as “learning labs” before we continue the conversation of legalization here in NH. We can glean valuable information on problems that actually arise, approaches that work, and how state revenues are enhanced from their experience. The time for New Hampshire is not now.
