Michalak takes seventh place

On Saturday, the ConVal Nordic team traveled to Center Sandwich, joining over 700 other skiers to compete in part one of the two-part New Hampshire Coaches Series races. Designed to celebrate the sport of cross-country skiing and to select the teams that will represent New Hampshire in the Junior Olympic and Eastern High School competitions, this first race was a 5K skate event on a looping course on the Sandwich Fairgrounds.

All of the ConVal Nordic team competed in the day-long program. Leading off for ConVal in the highly competitive Boys A race was Ben Wescott, who placed 85th, followed by Tyler Aborn.

In the Girls A race, Sydney Michalak took seventh overall, positioning her to earn one of the top spots on the New Hampshire team for the Eastern High School races to be held in March against teams from Mass., Vermont, Maine, and other states. Following Michalak were Rowan Wilson (65th) and Mei Buzzell (116th).

In the afternoon Girls B race, Sawyer Cawthern led the ConVal team, placing 28th, followed by Kelsa Danforth (48th), Claire Rupp (50th), Zoë Smith (58th), Danica Morris (72nd) and Doris Donelan (75th). The Nordic team’s next race is today in Antrim, hosted by Keene High School.
