ConVal athletes take home medals
The ConVal Special Olympics team competed at the 38 annual state winter games, taking home fistfulls of hardware and ribbons. The games were held at Waterville Valley from March 2 to March 4, with hundreds of athletes from around the state competing. Eleven ConVal athletes competed in Alpine and Nordic skiing as well as snowshoeing.
“All of the athletes did extremely well. They were very positive and excited to participate and represent ConVal High School,” said coach Mary Maughan.
Highlights included Dalton Coyne taking gold in giant slalom and super G, James MacFarlane taking silver in the 100 meter snowshoe, Megan Updyke taking silver in the 100, 200, and 50 meter snowshoe, Brandon Chase earning gold in the 100 and 200 meter Nordic ski to go with his silver in the 50 meter, Jarek Noschese taking gold in the 200 meter Nordic, and Polly Whipple taking 100 and 50 meter silver in Nordic. Caitlin Ellis, Noschese, Whipple, and Coyne all earned bronze medals, while Dylan Coyne, Jason Kulgren, Tess Fitzgerald, and Andrew Hopkins earned ribbons.
“It was a wonderful time,” said Maughan. The athletes will be back in action during the summer games held May 31 - June 1 at UNH.
