Tango for Everyone

The theme is tango for First Friday at the Mariposa Museum on Friday at 7 p.m.

Instructor Randy Avis and his tango students will give a performance followed by a brief lesson and a milonga for anyone who would like to dance the night away. The message for the evening is not only that Tango is an expression and a conversation through dance but also that its fun and you can do it, too.

Randy Avis is passionate about tango, dancing for nine years and teaching for four. He states, “Tango is all about making the perfect connection with my partner, whether that partner is a complete stranger who will disappear from my life at the end of the song or a life-long partner. And this has become my attitude about every person who enters into my life.”

Through May, as an added bonus, new or renewing members of the Mariposa will receive four free (single or couples) tango lessons with Randy Avis.

Also on First Friday from 6-7 p.m., there will be a reception for the ongoing Exhibition “Sharing Sacred Ground: Weaving Memory and Change in the Americas” featuring the tapestry of Mary Merrill, photos from “Faces of Tradition: Weaving Elders of the Andes” and original illustrations from children’s book “Beyond the Stones of Machu Picchu.”

KidKraft from 5-6 p.m. will be Spring Flowers.

All events for First Friday are free and open to the public.

The Mariposa is wheelchair accessible.
