We lost, but we had ‘our say’

To the editor:

Although the effort to convince the Rindge Planning Board to keep the Charrette as a historical document in the Master Plan failed, I appreciate the fact that the Ledger-Transcript published my request for support at the public hearing.  You gave us the best chance we were going to get to bring people out who believe in free speech and planning for the future.

Very few people showed up in support of keeping the Charrette, compared with the many who were opposed, but I want to thank those who did stand up for their courage in facing the crowd. At least we got to “have our say.”

Who knew that, in America, ideas could be considered so threatening and dangerous that they must be expunged from the public record?  Hopefully, the whole proceeding, including our statements and objections to this “erasure” will survive.
