Letter

Here’s to our heroic firefighters

To the editor:

This letter is to thank the Peterborough Fire Department for their valiant rescue of Huckleberry the bloodhound. Huckleberry fell into a 40-foot deep quarry after chasing a raccoon last week, and became wedged in the brush and yard debris that had been composting in the quarry. He was trapped 10 feet down from the top and 30 feet up from the bottom.

The firefighters had to rappel down the wall of the quarry and carry the 130-pound bloodhound to safe ground. I am most grateful for their assistance under such unusual circumstances and hope they enjoyed the rappelling exercise and meeting Huckleberry. He certainly enjoyed meeting them!
