Head-on collision sends two drivers to hospital

A head-on collision between on Mountain Road in Jaffrey on Thursday morning sent both drivers to the hospital. Both suffered ankle injuries.

According to police reports, an eastbound Mazda Miata, driven by Richard Dwinell of Fitzwilliam, skidded out of control on a patch of ice and collided with a westbound Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, driven by Clarita Wallen of Jaffrey.

After being struck, Wallen’s vehicle appeared to have careened off the roadway and into a guardrail.

When officers arrived on the scene, Dwinell was lying in the roadway, conscious and aware but suffering from what appeared to be a broken ankle. Wallen also suffered from foot and ankle injuries in the accident; both parties were transported to the hospital.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Officers determined that the ice patch was the major contributing factor in the accident; no charges are being brought forward.
