ANTRIM — Residents of Elm Avenue reported a house fire at their neighbors' house at 11:55 a.m., according to Police Chief Scott Lester in an interview Thursday.

The residents of the home at 23 Elm Avenue, Jennifer Valley and Patrick Chamberlin, were not home at the time of the fire, Lester said. There was a dog was tied up outside of the house; the animal was unharmed in the blaze.

At 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Lester said the responding fire fighters were still fighting the fire and the residents of the home had arrived at the scene. Lester said he doesn’t know what started the fire. When Antrim police arrived at the scene around noon Lester said he did not see flames, just smoke coming from the eaves of the home.

The responding agencies included Antrim, Bennington, Deering, Dublin, Hancock, Hillsborough, Peterborough, Stoddard and Washington. Elm Avenue resident John Kendall reported the fire to police when he observed smoke coming from his neighbors home. The home was not visible from the road but the Peterborough fire truck’s crane was extended all the way over the home.
