Man arrested for Maple Street prowling

On Friday morning, police arrested a prowler who they believe was attempting to break into cars in the area of Maple Street.

According to a press release issued by police on Friday, while on patrol on Maple Street, Patrol Officer Bill Hickerson encountered a man, later identified as William Roman, 20, of Wilton, leaving a residential driveway. Roman was familiar to Hickerson, who knew that Roman did not live at the residence, and Hickerson made contact with Roman.

Police allege that after a short investigation, Hickerson determined that Roman had been attempting to break into cars in the area.

Police arrested Roman and charged him with prowling. Roman was released on $400 personal recognizance with a court date of May 6 at the 9th District Court in Milford.

According to the press release, car break-ins have been an ongoing issue in the downtown area of Wilton over the last six weeks. Wilton Police have investigated a number of vehicle break-ins in both the downtown and Abbot Hill Road area during that time frame.

At this time, police are continuing to investigate to see if Roman may be connected to any of these previous incidents, according to the press release.

When contacted Monday, police declined to comment on the number of incidents that have occurred in the downtown area, or what items had been taken, due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
