Family fun on Friday, fishing and bikes on Saturday
ANTRIM — Family fun night, a fishing derby with prizes and a bike safety rodeo are all in store for residents this weekend, courtesy of Antrim Recreation.
The fun will kick off Friday evening at the town gym with a free Family Fun Night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Families can expect crafts and lots of different games, Recreation Director Celeste Lunetta said on Tuesday.
Early the next day, the Antrim Youth Fishing Derby will take place from 8 a.m. until about 10 a.m., although Lunetta said that residents start arriving as early as 7 a.m.
“Don’t miss lines in the water at 8 a.m.,” she said.
Every young fisherman will receive a prize and additional recognition will be awarded to those who catch specific fish. Lunetta said that Dave Wilson of Antrim started the derby 18 years ago to promote youth fishing. The derby and all the required fish are paid for by the town.
Also on Saturday at the gym parking lot, the Recreation Department, the Police Department and the Lions Club will host a Bike Safety Day at 1 p.m. Young bicyclists can anticipate bike safety checks, bike decorating, and free helmets. A rules of the road bike course will be conducted by the Antrim police, with a bike awarded to the winner.
Volunteers will set up a little course to teach two to four-year-olds how to ride a bike and bike decorating and safety checks will also take place.
