Police break up youth drinking
Police: No charges are pending
PETERBOROUGH — Police took 13 teenagers into custody Saturday night after finding them with alcoholic beverages in the woods off of Monadnock Lane.
At about 9:15 p.m., police received a call regarding a possible underage party in the woods. When police arrived, they located 13 people, gathered around a large fire, according to a press release issued by Peterborough Police Department on Monday. All of the partygoers were under the legal drinking age, but the alcoholic beverage consumption was evident, according to police. All 13 were taken into police custody.
Police took into custody a 16-year-old female from Greenfield, a 17-year-old from Bennington, an 18-year old female from Hancock, seven 17-year-old males from Peterborough, a 17-year-old from Hancock, a 18-year-old male from Greenfield and an 18-year-old male from Dublin. Keys to all vehicles were collected at the scene.
Police were assisted by officers from Hancock, Greenfield and Antrim. All 13 people who were taken into protective custody, were later released to their parents. Police also turned over the keys to vehicles at the scene to parents, with instructions to retrieve the vehicles. There are no pending charges at this time, according to police.
The Peterborough Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire.
