Harris Center leading kayaking, hiking trips

The Harris Center will lead a kayak trip on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. along the Ashuelot River to scenic Ashuelot Pond.

This will be a good opportunity for wildlife sightings, possibly including loon and beaver. Meet at 10 a.m. at the boat landing at the end of Washington Pond Road in Marlow (next to Christmas Tree Inn).

Rick Brackett and Eric Masterson will lead a moderately easy three-mile hike on Sunday of an area of major conservation focus on the western shores of Silver Lake, with hundreds of acres of land under easement to several different organizations. The hike will loop though moose-browsed woods to the shore near Loon Island. Bring swimwear and a towel, and meet at 10 a.m. at the Silver Lake boat launch (off Breed Road on the southern end of the lake) to carpool. The group will return by 1 p.m.

For more information on either outing, contact Eric Masterson at masterson@harriscenter.org. This trip is cosponsored by the Harris Center for Conservation Education with the Monadnock Conservancy.
