Scholarship winners honored at dinner

An unusual dinner celebration for two 2014 ConVal Community Scholarship Foundation award winners happened at The Village at RiverMead last week. Meghan Close of Peterborough won her scholarship award to earn a certificate or degree in Environmental Science at the University of Vermont. Dakota Jones of Antrim will use her award to earn a certificate or degree in Arts Management and Marketing at the University of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

The courses of study chosen by these two scholarship winners (two of seven given this year by our ConVal Community Scholarship Foundation) are anything but usual. Meghan and Dakota were invited to meet with RiverMead residents, expert in their chosen fields of study to discuss their career objectives and aspirations. Joel and Anne Huberman for Environmental Science and Judith Vance, Fine Art Appraisal, for Arts Management and Marketing, were the RiverMead resident experts. Lisa Foley, Mary Lou O’Neil and John Vance of the ConVal scholarship foundation participated. Particularly interesting in the environmental science program is urban, indoor agriculture in environments not suitable for habitation or other commercial uses. The program in Arts Management and Marketing at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts is also innovative.

Mentoring assistance for scholarship award candidates and winners has long been part of the ConVal Scholarship program. Connecting them with experienced senior academics and other experienced experts at RiverMead adds a dimension, rewarding for all.
